I have been speaking with a lot of my customers about the upcoming project that will merge SPlat and IPSO. I spent a few days with the product manager heading this up and learned some pretty interesting information. I am not able to discuss too much at this point, but I can say that the project name is “Gaia” which basically means “earth.”

If you want to get an idea of what Gaia will become, take a look here.

Does this mean it’s going to cost us the earth.
Or does this mean it’s going to be as clear as mud

I’m sure that once SmartMarketing and SmartLicensing get involved…well we’ll just have to see.

What does it means, after merging SPLAT and IPSO, we can install the merged image either in Nokia or on server.
Apologies if it a silly question 🙂

I met with the Product Manager heading up Gaia last month, and he said the goal is to have one OS that will run on the UTM/Power-1 and IP Appliance (formerly Nokia). Both product lines are Intel based so this is not too far of a stretch. The IP Appliance line does offer some specialized hardware options (ADP for example) so Gaia will need to have built-in support for those items. There is a good chance we will see Gaia by June of 2010, but as of right now there is not even a pre-EA version available.
