From time to time I find myself in the position of explaining the type of work that I do to people who are not in IT (holiday parties, relatives, etc). I sometimes just have to say my line of work is “computer security.” From there you usually get questions about a suspicious email they received, or what the best AV is for their son’s computer, etc.

Anyways, I found a good video a few years ago titled “Warriors of the Net.” It is actually pretty good for introducing non-technical people to the idea of a network, and what (sort of) is going on inside the wires, and the “Interwebs.”  Granted it is a little dated in that for security it only talks about Firewalls (this is before IPS, DLP, and other technologies), but it still gets the job done.
