Few people inside of Check Point even know about this one, but there is a hidden tool in the new R61 release. It is called Policy Comparison tool. It allows you to compare policy versions side by side before you Install Policy, or when you use the Database Revision Control.

Right now it is a free feature, but it does require a license to unlock. You will have to get in contact with your local Check Point SE for this one. Once the license is installed, it creates the ‘Compare Policies’ buttons seen in the previous screenshots.

It is very cool, but how is this tool useful? First off it answers the question of “what changed?” Have you ever pushed a policy and broke something? With this tool it will tell you what that change was. Also, auditors like seeing that you are doing rulebase analysis and policy comparison. This is a big plus in an audit along with the ‘Audit’ tab in SmartView Tracker.

This is very very cool. Is it available with an open eval?

No. It is not currently part of the \”open eval\” which is a 30 day evaluation license that you can get from a reseller of Check Point employee. For the Policy Comparison tool you need to supply the IP of your SmartCenter server or CMA to a Check Point SE, or reseller \”in the know.\”
